Linda Lee Slawson (nee Smith)- a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and esteemed member of the Jackson, MS community, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2023, at her daughter's home in Ocean Springs, MS. She was surrounded by her loving family during her final moments.
Born on November 5, 1954, in Knoxville, TN, Linda was the daughter of the late Edward and Dorothy Smith. She grew up in a caring and supportive family and developed a deep appreciation for the values of love and compassion that she carried with her throughout her life.
Linda dedicated 25 years of her career to working at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, MS. Her commitment and dedication to providing care touched the lives of many patients and inspired those around her. Linda's kind-hearted nature and unwavering work ethic made her an invaluable asset to the hospital community.
Linda had an incredible range of talents and hobbies. She possessed a natural ability to fix almost anything and enjoyed taking on various projects. Her gentle hands created beautiful, crochet prayer shawls for her church community and occasionally sewed clothing for her beloved grandchildren. Gardening brought Linda immense joy as she nurtured vibrant blooms and harvested fresh produce from her backyard. Additionally, she found great satisfaction in refinishing furniture and arranging flowers for church events.
Beyond her career accomplishments and hobbies, Linda's proudest achievement was being a loving mother to Angela (James) Covelli and Polly (Brett) Coxwell. The bond she shared with them was unbreakable, built on a foundation of unconditional love and support. Her grandchildren Abigail Covelli, Andrew Covelli, Kinzel Jane Coxwell, Cora Lee Coxwell, and Baby Coxwell brought immeasurable joy to Linda's life.
In addition to her immediate family, Linda is survived by her siblings Ed (Carole) Smith, Marion Smith, Randy (Kathy) Smith, who were pillars of strength during difficult times and brought countless cherished memories into Linda's life. She had a wide circle of friends whose lives were touched by her warmth, kindness, and genuine nature.
Linda Lee Slawson will forever be remembered as a compassionate and dedicated individual who touched the hearts of everyone she encountered. Her strength and love continue to inspire those who knew her, leaving an indelible mark on the world she leaves behind. May her soul find eternal peace as we hold her memory close in our hearts.
To honor Linda's memory, memorial visitation will be held on December 11, 2023, at St Philip's Episcopal Church in Jackson, MS, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., to be followed by a memorial service at 2:30 p.m., at St Philip's Episcopal Church, 5400 Old Canton Road in Jackson, MS 39211.
