Tamra Ehlers

March 22, 1959 — September 20, 2022

Biloxi

Tamra Louise Hurt Ehlers, age 63, of Biloxi, passed away September 20, 2022.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Eugene Allen Hurt; her father, Hubert S. Hurt, Jr.; and her dear, Aunt Ettie (Pee Wee) Towery.

Tamra is survived by her beloved family, her daughter, Jessica Leigh Havard Moran (Pete); 2 siblings, Gina K. Shaw (Steve) and Natalie R. Dikum (Steve); granddaughter, Haleigh Jace Havard; great grandson, Cooper Lee Jordan; aunts, Glenda Martin (Robert), Betty Sue Boykin (Thad), and Doris Marie Scott; and her very special nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was a native of Escatawpa and a current resident of Biloxi. She loved to be outdoors and could grow any plant, flower, vegetable, or fruit. She loved to cook and could bake like a pro, from truffles to elaborate desserts. Most of all she loved being “MeMe” to her granddaughter Haleigh and great grandson, Cooper! Tamra was a member of reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints.

Tamra had a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She was a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy Reserves, serving from 1988-1998 at the Naval Air Stations in Jacksonville and New Orleans. She was most recently a nurse at MS Coast Endoscopy and Surgery Center. Tamra also spent years as a Pediatric Nurse with Pediatric Associates and fulfilled various other positions within hospitals both in Mississippi and Florida, including ICU and OR nursing.

Tamra was a kindhearted, selfless woman and nurse who devoted her life to caring for others. To know her was to love her. Through her many years in the nursing profession, she received countless words and notes of thanks and appreciation form coworkers and patients she cared for.

Thank you to the staff and administration at Lighthouse Assisted Living for the kindness, compassion, and love while caring for Tamra. A very special thank you to Sarah and her amazing Hospice Staff at SADDs who always went above and beyond, especially in Tamra’s final days of her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease; ensuring she was comfortable and at peace as she passed from this world. Our family will forever be grateful.

Tamra’s final selfless wish was to donate her body for research to help find the cure and end Alzheimer’s via Genesis Legacy. She also had a special love for children and spent years in pediatric nursing. To honor this love and devotions, we ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her honor locally to the SoSo Strong Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation at any Community Bank Branch location or by mail at P.O. Box 632, Ocean Springs, MS 39566.

A Celebration of Life will be planned for October 22, 2022, with details to follow.
