Vernon Donald Summers

Vernon Donald Summers, 59, of Gulfport, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015 in Gulfport.
Mr. Summers was born November 6, 1955 in Brookhaven, MS to King Roger Summers and Eula Mae Phelps.
Mr. Summers was self employed as a roofer on the Gulf Coast for the past 40 years helping the coast rebuild after Hurricane Katrina. He was a volunteer with the Harrison County Sheriffs Department feeding program during the holidays for many years. He was an avid fisherman and loved his dogs and chickens.
Mr. Summers was preceded in death by his father, King Roger Summers. He is survived by his mother, Eula Mae Phelps of Gulfport; his wife, Darla Summers of Gulfport; his sons, Christopher (Rebecca) Summers of Gulfport and Matthew Summers of Gulfport; and his brothers, Paul (Elaine) Summers, Dale Summers and Roger Summers, all of Gulfport; his sisters, Millie (Jimmy) Renfro of Pace, FL, Pearlie (Tinker) Sullivan, and Rita Moser all of Gulfport. Donald was the youngest of his siblings often being called the baby. Survivors also include his grandchildren, Alexia Summers of Saucier, MS, Cameron Coffman, Codie Coffman and T.J. Clolinger, all of Gulfport; and numerous nieces and nephews who all adored him and his best friend, Ben Benoit.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 9 p.m., Monday, May 4 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport.
The Funeral Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5 at Campground Baptist Church where friends may visit from 1 to 3 p.m. Burial will follow at Wolf River Cemetery. Because Donald was a simple man who loved life, the family is asking that you wear your favorite fishing shirt and blue jeans to the services to remember him.
