Gulfport

Scott James Blount, age 61, of Gulfport, passed away on July 17, 2020, I Slidell, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Amelia “Metzie” Blount and James O. Blount and Catherine Blount.

Scott is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Debbie Blount; his daughter, Katelyn (Michael) Lowery; 2 brothers, Steven (Nancy) Blount and Brian (Rozanne) Blount; 6 grandchildren, Emma, Eathan, Evan, Elaine, Edwin, and Emry Lowry; a niece, Allison Blount; a nephew, Grayson (Liz) Wallace; and many friends.

He was a lifelong resident of Gulfport and was a graduate of Gulfport High School.  He attended MS Gulf Coast Community College and he later enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he devoted 4 years of honorable service.  He was currently employed as a Senior Facilities Engineer at Lockheed Martin at the Stennis Space Center.  He was an Eagle Scout and he enjoyed music, fishing, and camping.

Scott was a loving, gentle, caring, and loyal husband to Debbie. They were best friends and soul mates.  He may not have been very expressive with his words but he made it up with actions and sweet loving gestures. He loved his daughter Katelen with all of his heart.  They may have been apart in miles but that didn’t stop him from lovingly bragging about her, Michael and his six beautiful grandchildren Emma, Ethan, Evan, Elaine, Edwin and Emry. He truly had a giver’s heart. He took great care of his Mother in law, Doris. He willing would take her to her doctor’s appointments and her hair appointments. He was her champion.

His love for his brothers Brian and Steven knows no bounds.  When the three of them got together they had a blast.  They always were working on some project together cussing and discussing. It was funny to watch and sometimes aggravating to their wives.  But the task was always completed and at the end of the day then they shared many stories together while drinking a beer and listening to good music.

He was a brother to many of his friends. You were family and he treated you with respect and kindness.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was the consummate host and a fabulous cook.  You were lucky if you got to sample his cooking. Especially his GUMBO.   There were very few people he would let in his kitchen or cook with but Rose and Sherry were his choice of co-cooks. Every meal they prepared was delicious.  One of his passions was to help support Girls Haven with cooking in a Gumbo cookoff.  They received several first place and overall champion awards.  This gave him bragging rights but his main concern was for the girls and their care.

Scott could fix anything. Brian always said if they both stranded and Brian has the full mechanical tool set, Scott has chewing gum, baling wire and duct tape, guess who would make it home.  Not Brian!

In reviewing many of the messages of condolences the word kind comes up repeatedly “ What nice guy.”  He will be sorely missed by many.

A private interment will be held in Biloxi National Cemetery.
