On Saturday, September 11, 2021, Ryan L Shields (R.L. Shields) of Vancleave, Mississippi departed this life surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was sixty-five (65) years old.

R.L. adorned this world with his brilliant, witty light on September 10, 1956, when he was born as the son of Quondaila Cameron and Glenn Shields of Sacramento, CA. He Graduated from Rio Linda High School in Rio Linda, CA in 1971. Shorty after graduation he joined the United States Air Force where he was an aircraft Mechanic. R.L. always possessed an innate compassion and empathy for others and had a great desire to help others through their difficulties.

Ryan married his best friend and the love of his life Kathleen. They spent the last twenty-seven (27) years living life to the fullest together. They have raised six (6) children: Quondaila Bellard, Gabriel Shields, Theron Shields, Darren Helt, Uriah Shields and Cameron Bialy.

Ryan passionately and dedicatedly served for twenty-one (21) years as a NRParamedic, retiring from AMR in 2019. Ryan truly lived by the “knowing life matters” motto. He was the picture of professionalism when it came to his career. R.L. was known for wearing his long sleeve shirt and tie, come rain or shine. He said often, “When you step out of the ambulance, you should always look professional because it instills confidence in your patient that you know what you are doing”. He had a strong passion for education and always having the most up to date training and education in his field. He was even invited to help write the national advance EMT curriculum. Ryan also served as a member of the Harrison County Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Team.

His passions continued with fishing, the Green Bay Packers, walks on the beach, being on the water, traveling, EMS, education cooking breakfast, sharing life lessons through his many stories, but mostly his wife, children and grandchildren. R.L. loved his family. He was a loving and doting husband, a dedicated and supportive father and a fun hearted affectionate grandfather.

Ryan is preceded in death by his daughter, Quondaila Bellard; granddaughter, Elyssa Bellard; father, Glenn Shields; and brother, Randy Shields;

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Shields and their five children, Gabriel Shields (wife, Toni Shields) of Vancleave, MS, Theron Shields (wife, Tracy Shields) of Waveland, MS, Darren Helt of AL, Uriah Shields of Rosewell, NM and Cameron Bialy of Vancleave, MS; Twelve Grandchildren, Dominic, Ryan, Christopher, Bryce, Tyler, Ayana, Lily, Peyton, Aiden, Nash, Akaya and Dayne; Mother, Quondeila Cameron; and his siblings, Kevin Shields, Nina Nix, Tammy Rowan and Lori Bishop; numerous relatives, and dear friends and colleagues.

Ryan never met a stranger, to know him was to love him, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are invited to Celebrated Ryan’s life on Thursday, September 23rd at 12:00 pm at the Latimer Community Center, 10908 Daisy Vestry Road, Biloxi, MS 39532.
