Reginald Lechner

Reginald Jerome Lechner, known to his family and friends as “Reggie” of Biloxi, passed away in Biloxi on Sunday, July 31, 2022 at the age of 69.

Reggie was a native of Biloxi, he grew up on Kuhn Street, graduated from Biloxi High School and from Jefferson Davis Junior College.  He worked for Patterson Plumbing and Heating and A/C in Biloxi before moving to South Bend, IN where he worked as the Facilities Director for St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame’s sister school until his retirement.

While at St. Mary’s, he worked with Thomas R. Platt of the Biology Dept.  Platt discovered a new parasite on freshwater turtles and named in the auriculotrema Lechner N.  The discovery was in Queensland, Australia and Reggie assisted with the photographs and graphic designs when he returned to South Bend.

Reggie was a devoted Nortre Dame Fightin’ Irish football fan on Saturdays, and a New Orleans Saints fan on Sundays.  He was the President for both the St. Martin Babe Ruth League and the D’Iberville Little League Baseball teams in the early 80’s.  He played Golf on the Notre Dame - St. Mary’s golf league, he was the scorekeeper for Notre Dame hockey games, and an usher for Notre Dame football games.  He guarded the gate behind the football team.  He loved every minute of each roll he played.

He is preceded in death by his son, Reggie Lechner, Jr.; his parents, Henry G. and Mary Louise Lechner; his sisters, Debbie Deaver, Francie Blackmon, Ellen Leboeuf; and his brothers, Greg Lechner and Kevin Lechner.

Reggie is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Mary C. “Cathy” Trochesset Lechner; his sons, Shaun M Lechner of Biloxi, MS., and Joshua S. Lechner and his wife Sarah Butler Lechner of Fremont, CA.; his grandchildren, Amber L. Lechner of Atlanta, GA., Riley Zonyk and Kalen Serenity Lechner, both of New Lebanon, OH., and Jackson James Lechner of Fremont, CA; nieces and nephews, Danielle Labat (Roy), Bubba Leboeuf (Trisha), Kellie Blackmon, Angie Oakes, Christina Ott, D.J. Deaver (Andrea), and Phillip Deaver (Xandra); his closest and dearest friends, Owen and Patsy Trochesset; his in-laws, Diana and Joseph Paffe, Rebecca and Clayton Williams, Evelyn McGarrh and Rich Burdine, Joann and Mike Dale, his godchild, Melissa McHarg; a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, relatives and dear friends.

The Lechner family would like to thank all family and friends for their love and support.  We would like to thank Dr. Pavlov of North Bay Family Medicine, SAAD Health Care and Hospice, Portia of Heaven’s Harbor and the staff of Ocean Springs Hospital for the care all provided to Reggie.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. Celebration of Life Service at The Riemann Family Funeral Home Chapel, located at 13872 Lemoyne Blvd. in West Jackson County.  Reggie will be laid to rest along with his son at the Biloxi City Cemetery.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the Woolmarket Community Center, located at 16320 Old Woolmarket Road in Biloxi immediately following the graveside service.
