Gulfport

Linnell "Nell" Yandell Knott, 85, of Gulfport, passed away on Friday, May 14, 2021 at USA Health University Hospital in Mobile, Alabama.
Nell accomplished many achievements during her lifetime. She had a catering business in her early years and enjoyed catering many weddings along the Gulf Coast. She served as PTA President and was an active member throughout the years her children were in school. Nell worked for Gulfport City Schools (West Junior High, Central Elementary and Gulfport High School). Nell was a member of the Gulfport Jaycettes, where she was awarded Outstanding Jaycette. She was a member of the Star Twirlers and Belles and Buoys Square Dancing Club, where she served as chairman for Mardi Gras Festivals for many years. An active member of the Golden Pine Exhibition Square Dancing Group, Nell was responsible for making all the members' costumes. Square Dancing was her passion for over 55 years. All of her children followed in her footsteps and learned to square dance at a very early age. Up to her death she was square dancing at least 4 times a week. Nell enjoyed the art of lapidary and was a member of the Harrison County Gem and Mineral Society. She was known by many to be an outstanding seamstress. For many years, she took pride in her work as she sewed the beautifully intricate costumes for the Court as well as the King and Queen of the Krewe of Gemini. At the time of her death, she was in the middle of sewing for the Court and King and Queen of the 2022 Krewe. She also loved baking pastries of rosettes every Christmas and delivering them to so many special friends and family members. Nell's love of travel throughout the years took her to 49 states, only lacking Alaska. Having been postponed due to COVID, an upcoming Alaskan cruise with her daughter had been set for 2022. She had her passport ready to go! Nell had a love for quilting and thus created beautiful quilts as gifts for her family and friends, especially newborn babies.
Nell always said her greatest accomplishments and treasures in life were her children and grandchildren. She wanted to be remembered for her love for each of her children, planning birthday parties and holiday celebrations, her beautiful quilts, her life-long love for square dancing, and for always being there when her family and friends needed her.
Nell was preceded in death by her parents, John & Aurilla Malone; and her husband, Stan Knott. She is survived by her 4 children, Adela Saucier (David), Tammy Frierson, Karen McConnell and Kenneth Yandell (Renee); her 5 stepchildren, Wanda, Kim, Heidi, Pam and Erving III; her long-time companion, Tom Baker; her sister, Bertha Redmond; and her 3 grandchildren, Jonathan Saucier (Rachelle), Hunter Frierson and Tyler McConnell.
