MSgt LeRoy F. Eastes, Jr., USAF, Ret., age 94, of Lyman, passed away on December 20, 2015.
Mr. Eastes was born in Marion, Grant Co., Indiana and had been a resident of the MS Gulf Coast since April 1948 and lived in the Lyman community since July 1958.
Prior to entering military service in WWII, Mr. Eastes was employed by the US Army Signal Corp as Chief of the Signal Corp Inspection Office at the Paranite Wire and Cable Co. in Marion, TN.
Mr. Eastes served with the U.S. Army in China and the Korean Occupation. Roy transferred his career to the U.S. Air Force in April 1948 when he re-enlisted to enter Radar Training at Keesler AFB and served in France from 1952 to 1955. Roy retired from the Air Force in June 1966 with 22 years of active service. His last three years of active duty was served as Chief of the Instructions Systems Development Team, detached from Air Training Command HQs at Randolph AFB, San Antonio, TX and assigned to Keesler AFB, MS.
After retiring from the military, Mr. Eastes spent two years at the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce in Gulfport and then went back to Keesler AFB as an Electronic Training Instructor for another 15 years. Mr. Eastes fully retired in December 1983 with 38 years of Federal Service.
Mr. Eastes was a family historian for over 50 years and compiled and published seven Family History books confirming the Eastes/Estes paternal line back to 1495 in England. His eighth and last book was The History of Lyman, MS published in June 2009.
Mr. Eastes was a life member of Polar Star Masonic Lodge, a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason, a charter member of Joppa Shrine Temple of Gulfport, a member of the Gulf Coast Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution, the National Genealogical Society and several Historical and Genealogical Societies in the U. S. and England.
Mr. Eastes was preceded in death by his wife, Berniece Maloy Eastes, his parents, LeRoy Eastes, Sr. and Mary E. Long Eastes. Survivors include two sons, Jerry F. (Lucia) Eastes and J. Mike (Genice) Eastes, a daughter, Sally (Otts) Loposser, a brother, Jim A. Eastes, 5 grandchildren, Katherine Denise Dickens, J. Michael (Amy) Eastes II, Mary and Marjorie Eastes, and Christopher (Candice) Loposser, 4 great-grandchildren, Justin Warden, Destiny Cowart, Tyler and Kate Loposser, and many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to The Shriners Cripple Children's Hospital c/o Joppa Shrine Temple, Biloxi.
The visitation will be on Tuesday, December 22, 2015, from 11 am - 12 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Rd., Gulfport. The funeral service will be at 12 noon in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Finley Cemetery.
