Larry Allen Krohn, of Gulfport, was called to his eternal home on Tuesday, July 5th, 2022 following a brief illness with cancer. He was a devoted husband, father and proud grandfather.

Larry was born on December 14, 1951 and was raised in Perkinston, MS on the campus of Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College where his father was the Business Manager.  He earned his degree in pharmacy from the University of Mississippi in 1974. His academic achievements included Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior College, the Rho Chi Scholarship, Magna Cum Laude, top in his pharmacy class and was bestowed the honor of receiving the highest academic award at Ole Miss, the Taylor Medal.

Upon graduation, Larry began his career as an independent pharmacist at Beach Pharmacy in Gulfport. Working side by side with his mentor and eventual business partner, Mr. A.F. “Gus” Carraway.  For 43 years, Larry dutifully served his community as their home town pharmacist.  He always greeted everyone coming through the doors of his pharmacy by name, and did his best to be sure everyone was taken care of.  He served as a preceptor for the Ole Miss School of Pharmacy for many years and was named Preceptor of the Year in 2010.  He very much enjoyed being able to share his immense knowledge with young future pharmacist. Upon his retirement from regular daily duties, Larry entrusted the running of the pharmacy into the hands of his two children.  Since retiring he has enjoyed spending time working the family land and traveling the world with his wife and good friends.

In addition to his time spent in the pharmacy and with his family, Larry also served as President, Vice President, and Treasurer of the Gulfport Jaycees and the Mississippi Jaycees.  Additionally, he also served on the Selective Service Board, Gulfport Chamber of Commerce, and Mississippi State Pharmacy Association. He was member of Handsboro Baptist Church in Gulfport for 36 years where he was an ordained deacon.

Larry was preceded in death by his loving parents, Mr. L.A. Krohn and Mrs. Myrtis Stewart Krohn.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Mrs. Lorraine Rayburn Krohn; two children, Jason (Julie) Krohn, of Gulfport, and Natalie (Shaw) Breland, also of Gulfport; he was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Kaleb Krohn Morykwas, Jared Ross Morykwas, Jacob Morrow Snell, Karlee Elle Krohn, Karsyn Elizabeth Krohn and Brooks Michael Breland.  He also leaves behind a sister, Genene (Larry) Danzey, of Wiggins; a brother, Terry “Tiger” (Rosa) Krohn, of Wiggins; brother-in-law, Lonnie (Carol) Rayburn, also of Wiggins; and numerous other cherished family members, including his Beach Pharmacy family.

A celebration of life service will be held at Handsboro Baptist Church in Gulfport on Saturday July 9, 2022. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.   Burial will follow at Woodlawn Park Cemetery in Wiggins, MS. Pallbearers will be his cousin, Malcolm White, and nephews, Bobby Danzey, Kolby Krohn, Kase Krohn, Randy Gates and Easlin Moore.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the L.A. Krohn Memorial Scholarship Fund C/O MGCCC Foundation, PO Box 99, Perkinston, MS 39573 or Handsboro Baptist Church, 1421 E. Pass Road, Gulfport, MS 39507.
