John "Johnny" Byrd

John D. “Johnny” Byrd, T.N., age 76, of Biloxi, passed away at his home on February 3, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Helen Byrd; and 2 brothers, Curtis Byrd and David Byrd.

He is survived by a daughter, Tara Pease (Chuck); a son, Jonathan Byrd (Ginger); his siblings, Pat Byrd (Terry), Laurence Byrd, Marguerite Allen (Scotty), and Nancy Phillips (David); 4 grandchildren, James Edgar Douglas Byrd, Emma Annette Byrd-Barnes (Tim), Helen Elizabeth “Lizi” Byrd, and Faith Scarlett Byrd; former spouse, Dorothy A. Byrd; 2 sisters-in-law, Lila Byrd and Susan Byrd; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Byrd was a lifelong resident of Biloxi and was a graduate of Biloxi High School, USM (history and science) and a M.Ed from William Carey University.  He was a teacher at Fernwood Middle School, St. Martin Middle School, and Mercy Cross Catholic High School and served as a guidance counselor at D’Iberville Middle School.  He was an active member at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, member and Past Master of Magnolia Lodge #120 in Biloxi, and Anne Grayson Eastern Star Chapter in Biloxi.  He was an avid reader and had a love and passion for astronomy, history, and studying the Bible.  He enjoyed sharing these loves with everyone and he never met a stranger.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 7, 2020, from 5 - 7 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi.  A mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 1904 Popps Ferry Road, Biloxi.  Masonic Rites will be administered following the service in the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer or Loaves and Fishes, 610 Water Street, Biloxi, MS 39530.
