Janet Roley

d. September 8, 2021

Gulfport

Janet Marie Favre Roley, age 73, was born Feb. 22, 1948.   She made a sudden and unexpected departure and moved to her heavenly home to be with Jesus along with her loving pet and companion Gabbie, where they were reunited with her husband, Bob, on the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Father, Joseph R. Favre, Mother, Lucille Favre, her brother Joseph Favre, Jr., and the love of her life husband, Bob Roley.

Survivors include Janet’s son, who was the joy of her life,  Bryan Roley of, Atlanta GA, brother’s Kenneth Favre (Myrna), David Favre (Teresa), Chuck Favre (Emilou); sister Cathy Fortenberry (Steve) as well as a multitude of family, extended family and friends of whom she loved with all her heart.

She was an active and faithful Christian and participated in many ways in the life and vital ministries of the church.  She formerly attended St. John’s Catholic Church for many years until she moved to Orange Grove and began attending St Joseph’s Catholic Church. She lived out her faith through action, generosity, prayer & sacrifice.

Janet was born and raised in Gulfport, MS and lived in Atlanta for a short time after marrying Bob and worked at Sears & Roebuck in the payroll department.  She and her husband Bob relocated back to Mississippi to care for her aging and departed mother to continue their life here on the coast.

Janet was a founding member of the Krewe of Odysseus where she shared celebrations and made memories for over a span of 10 years.

She was employed with Memorial Hospital from June of 1982 – 2021 for 39 years; 30 years in the Clinical Support Department.  She retired in March 2012 and she later returned in a part-time position as Administrative Assistant to the Trauma/Emergency Department where she was currently employed for 9 years.  During her employment Janet was awarded the title of 1989 Employee of the Year and received a Star Award in 2007.

To know Janet, was to love her. She was devoted to her family and friends and there was never a person she met that she did not touch their lives in some way.  She carried the light of Jesus within her sharing that light, love, kindness, and care to all.  She was an inspiration.  Janet’s gift was investing in people and all who knew her will feel a tremendous void but are comforted in knowing that she is dancing and happy in Heaven and will be, forever, our most dedicated prayer warrior.

The biblical meaning of a hummingbird relates to the bird’s ability to spread joy and playfulness.  Janet spread that everywhere she went.  We hope every time you see a hummingbird it will remind you of her.

The family would like to offer their deepest, sincere and heartfelt thanks to the staff of Memorial Hospital’s Trauma/Emergency Department who made heroic efforts and gave Janet loving treatment and care. Also, many thanks to Dr. Paul Mullen and his colleagues for the treatment and care they provided.  Special thanks to all those providing prayers and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, TN or Samaritan’s Purse.
