James Miller

James Kenneth Miller was born April 8, 1933 in Moundsville, West Virginia.  He was called home to the Lord on February 14, 2020 after a brief illness.  He served his country in the Air Force and then with the Reserves. He graduated from Lafayette College with a degree in Electrical Engineering.  He worked for 34 years in the Civil Service for the Air Force.

Jim also faithfully served his church family for fifty years at Long Beach First United Methodist Church until his death.  He served on the church finance committee.  He was Sunday School Superintendent and a Sunday school teacher for many years.

For years, Jim, Wanda, and his children followed the adage of “Those Who Wander Are Not Lost”, turning work trips across the country into family vacations.  By their high school graduation, his children had visited the lower 48 states.  After retirement, this continued, with the addition of his children’s spouses, his grand-dogs, and a change of motorhomes.  US National Parks and all that God and nature provided for our wonder and awe represented the backdrop for his travels.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Henry Miller, his mother, Ruth McConnell Miller, and his brother John Harold Miller.  He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Wanda Sutton Miller, his daughter, Michele Doze (Mitch) and son, Kevin (Susan).  He leaves a void in the hearts of so many who loved him.  He was the kindest of men, and the gentlest of souls.  All of us whose lives he touched are better people to have known him.

A memorial service and a celebration of his life is planned for Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at 2pm at the church he called home.  In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for any donations to be made to the church or the charity of your choice to honor his practice of serving others.
