James Eugene Baker passed away Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Memorial Hospital in Gulfport, Mississippi.
James Eugene was born in Hazlehurst, MS on March 6, 1932 -the child of Philip Beekman and Alma Foster Baker. James grew up in the Hazlehurst and Brookhaven, MS areas and attended the Gulf Coast Military School in Gulfport, MS. He was a retired U.S. Navy Submarine Chief Petty Officer with a career spanning over 22 years. After retiring from the Navy, he settled in northern Arkansas and was the Chief of Police for Yellville, AR. In his later years, he retired from the Civil Service U.S. Department of Agriculture and was a Freemason.
James is preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Jean Baker; father, Philip Beekman; mother, Alma Emmalina Foster Baker; and infant granddaughter, Lyssa Gene Baker.
James is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law; Jim (Vicki) Baker, Conway, AR; Michael (Merlene) Baker, Olive Branch, MS; Jeff Baker, Conway, AR; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at the Riemann Family Funeral Home in Biloxi, MS on Monday, May 3, 2021 at 1:00 pm. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 pm.
