Gary Leon Henzen, Sr., age 79, and longtime resident of Long Beach, MS., passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2022, peacefully at his home in Long Beach.
A native of Clinton, Iowa, Gary served his country serving in the United States Navy Seabees for over 20 years. He served 3 tours, and is a Vietnam Veteran, an Expert Marksman, and received several commendations including, Navy Unit Commendation, and Meritorious Unit Commendation before his retirement. He then went to work as the Maintenance Supervisor for the Holiday Inn in Gulfport before his final retirement after working with them for 15 years.
He loved woodworking, billiards and was a member of the Billiards Association and he loved antique “Classic” cars.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Elsie Henzen; his brother, Allen Henzen; and a grandson, Michael Mullinax.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Angeles Henzen of Long Beach; his sons Gary L. Henzen, Jr., of Saucier, and Matia D. Henzen and his wife Hilda of Long Beach; his siblings, Harry Henzen, Vanita Drager, and Paty Raesean; one grandchild, Amanda Zahn; and four great-grandchildren, Kyler Lanier, Alexis Zahn, Kaylynn Zahn, and Anthony Zahn;
The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice for excellent care given to Gary during this difficult time.
A visitation for friends will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until the 11:00 a.m. funeral service at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, on Commission Road in Long Beach. Burial will take place in Long Beach City Cemetery, with full military honors rendered by the United States Navy.
