Eleanor Schloemer

March 13, 1935 — January 13, 2021

Eleanor “Ellie” Lybeck Schloemer, 85, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 13, 2021. Ellie was born in Moline, IL but spent most of her life as a resident of Long Beach, MS. While in Illinois, she worked at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Rock Island. She later worked at the Naval Research Lab in Washington D.C before transferring to Stennis Space Center, where she stayed until her retirement in the early 1990s. In her spare time, Ellie was an avid reader. She enjoyed solving crossword puzzles and cheering on her favorite sports teams: the New Orleans Saints and Chicago Cubs. Ellie was a people person and never missed an opportunity to have a conversation. Throughout her life she retained her fierce independence and colorful sense of humor.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Geneva Lybeck. She is survived by her children Kenneth Schloemer, Terry Schloemer-Pollick, Kimberly Schloemer-Langford, and Douglas Schloemer; her grandchildren William Rhoads, Michael Rhoads, Scott Nichols, Jessica Camposagrado, Lindsey Veit, Hanna Schloemer, Madison Schloemer, and Sarah Anne Schloemer; and her great-grandchildren Luke Veit, Joey Camposagrado, Braeden Rhoads, Ty Rhoads, Reese Rhoads, Porter Rhoads, and London Rhoads.

She will be dearly missed by her friends and family, but she will be remembered for her lighthearted spirit. As Ellie would often say, “There are too many crabby people nowadays, you have to have a sense of humor, life’s too short.”
