Daniel Smith

Daniel Richard Smith, age 77 of Gulfport, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his father, Russel Smith; his mother, Patricia Norman; and his son, Greg Smith.

Dan is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Lynn Smith; his children, Terri Holmes (Bob), Kelly Parchem (Don), Richard Smith (Kelly), Robyn Jones (Steven); a brother, Don Norman (Pam); his sister, Debbie Adams (Bob); 15 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren.

He was born in Brantford, Ontario, Canada on January 20, 1943.  Eventually he moved to the United States and was drafted into the Army.  He spent 6 years in the Army where he served in Korea and Vietnam.

Dan began driving trucks for his dad in Canada in 1956.  He drove for many companies and owned his own 2 trucks before he retired in 2014.  He also served as a Reserve Police Officer for the Ocean Springs Police Department for 13 years and retired as a Major.

Anyone who knew Dan knew that he loved the 4th of July and was a like a kid with fireworks.  Every year, he wanted a cook out and lots of fireworks.

A Memorial Service will be held for Dan at his home in Gulfport on July 4, 2020, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM.
