Cmdr. David Riikonen

David A. Riikonen, 77, of D'Iberville MS passed away on July 27, 2021.

Originally from Fitchburg, MA, he joined the United States Coast Guard, achieved the rank of Commander, and retired after 28 years. Although he obtained Master's Degrees in Environmental Science and Education, he felt that his greatest accomplishment was his family.

He is survived by his wife Mari-Lynne Riikonen; daughter, Kimberly Pitney and her husband Aaron; son, Christopher Riikonen and his wife Heather; 6 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy and brother, Ronald.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Coast Guard Foundation (coastguardfoundation.org) or the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org).

A graveside service will be on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 12:30 pm in the Biloxi National Cemetery.
