Clyde Bobinger

d. August 10, 2022

Long Beach

Clyde Lawrence “Larry" Bobinger, 77, of Handsboro, lost his battle with cancer in the early morning of August 10th, 2022. He passed away peacefully in his sleep, at home, in the care of his beloved wife Beverly, of 55 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Angie Tolar Watson and William Russell Bobinger, Sr. ; brothers, William Russell Bobinger, Jr., Kenneth Fred Bobinger, David LaRue Bobinger; grandparents, Clyde and Pearl Tolar; step-brother, Robert Watson, Jr., and son-in-law, Travis Leon Andrews.

Larry is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Beverly Ann Bobinger; children, Larry Joe Bobinger, Angela Irene Andrews, James Anthony Bobinger, Jessica Laura Brann (Tommy); grandchildren, Chase Ashton Beech (Samantha), Brittany Laura Beech, Elizabeth Kim Brann, Gavin James Bobinger; great-grandson, Sawyer James Beech; and step-sister, Vicki Faye Bingham.

Larry grew up in Handsboro, MS and was known as one of the “Handsboro boys". He attended Gulfport High School and then served in the United States Navy from 1963-1967 on the U.S.S. Furse during the Vietnam War. After his time in the Navy, he spent the majority of his career, providing dedicated service to Mississippi Power as Operations Specialist at Plant Watson, retiring in 1997.

After retirement, Larry spent his time practicing his favorite hobby, catching “the green lip". He was a member of the bass fishing club, Rusty Hook Anglers, and covered the walls of his home with many awards and plaques.

During the last several years, he fought a hard battle with colo-rectal cancer, with the love and support of his wife, never leaving his side, and his oncologist, Dr. Fussell and her staff. He spent the last few years, no longer strong enough to fish, with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He also enjoyed chatting with his friends on the phone, sharing memories and fishing stories. Larry was so generous, always willing to help out his friends and family. He was a very intelligent, self-taught man who could fix almost anything, especially boat motors. He rarely accepted any form of payment for his work.

Friends and colleagues of the past and present describe him as a wonderful guy and a great friend. He can also be described as a loving, devoted husband and the best father and Paw-Paw, or “Pop-Pop", as Lizzy, “Pop-Pop's baby girl” nicknamed him.

Since he had so many friends throughout his life, it is impossible to list them all, but the family would like to especially thank Jerry Bullock and Rodney Phelps for being so supportive in the last years of his life.

The family also wishes to extend sincere appreciation to Dr. Fussell and her staff at Memorial Hematology Oncology Partners, including the nurses and staff of Memorial Hospital chemotherapy infusion clinic, where he received many years of chemo, and his hospice nurse, Erica, of Canon Hospice. The family would also like to thank Riemann's for their service during this difficult time.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, August 20th, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation 30 minutes prior, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
