Arthur Kelly, Jr.

CMSgt Arthur L. Kelly, Jr., age 92, passed away on Sunday, September 5, 2021 at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, MS.

He was born in Lindale, Georgia, but grew up in Rome, Georgia. He graduated from Model High School and attended the University of Alabama and the University of New Mexico. He was a graduate of the Air Force Senior NCO Academy. He proudly served his country for over 30 years and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1981, where only 1% attain the rank of chief.  He received many awards, decorations, honors, and outstanding accommodations during his military career.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, June Wilson Kelly. They were married 25 years and had three children; Michael (Grace) of Phoenix, Arizona, Patricia Miller (Jerry) of O’Fallon, Illinois, and David (deceased in August 2013). There are 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Art is also survived by one brother, Billie, of Gulfport.

He was also preceded in death by his second wife, Margaret Davis Kelly, a teacher, in October 2014. They were married in 1975 at Grace United Methodist Church, Dayton, Ohio. It was a glorious adventure as they traveled to all parts of the world. They shared in their love of exotic places and love of history. They were married almost 40 years. She was his beloved, caring wife, and best friend.

Art was a 66-year member of Fairborn Masonic Lodge #764, Valley of Dayton Scottish Rite, and Antioch Shrine Temple. He was a charter member of Antioch Legion of Honor and Past Commander. He was a member of Antioch Seniors, Royal Order of Jester, Order of Quetzalcoatl, El Ameen Nabeel and a Kentucky Colonel. Art was a member and deacon of First Presbyterian Church, Fairborn, Ohio.

A private graveside service with full military honors will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to Margaret.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
