Alma Stapleton

Alma "Pat" Stapleton, age 61, of Gulfport, passed away Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at her home.
She was preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Octavia Shelby; her maternal and paternal grandparents; brothers, David Dodd, Wayne Shelby, Elmer Shelby, Delmar "Will" Shelby; sister, Thelma "Sista" Kyles; husband Charles "Papa Smurt" Stapleton; former spouse Mr. Carr; and a special friend, June.
Survivors include two daughters, Belinda and Travia Anderson; three sisters, Barbara Shelby and Elma Watson, both of Gulfport, Dorothy Dodd of Pasadena, CA; three grandchildren, Asya, India and Jonathan; three great-grandchildren, Kesun, Bentley and Jaquentin "Ju-Ju"; special nieces, Shakira Lewis, Genesis Sarai Giddens, O'Sheila (Watson) Giddens, Mekeia Watson; and a special nephew, Anthony "Bug" Shelby.
Pat attended Harrison Central High School and Gulfport Job Corps Center. She received a certificate of achievement for completion of Certified Nursing Assistant training and for completion of Alzheimer 's disease unit training. Before becoming disabled, she worked for Memorial Hospital, Kare Center, Grand Casino, Woodland Village Nursing Center and Biloxi Community Living Center. She enjoyed church, spending time with family and writing inspirational quotes. She was a member of the Church of Christ - Gulfport and a huge supporter of St. Jude's.
The family wishes to express thanks to the members of Church of Christ - Gulfport for their kindness and prayer; Singing River Health System and Deaconess Home Health for their excellent care; Gulfport Police Department, Gulfport Fire Department, and AMR for the professionalism and dignity; and Riemann Family Funeral Homes for their excellence and professionalism in funeral service.
Funeral services, visitation and burial will be private. Pat will be laid to rest at Monroe Memorial Park, Canal Road, Gulfport. Pallbearers will be Anthony Shelby, Najik Lewis, Michael Hardy, Jonathan Graves, Secory Smith and Christopher Harris, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Reginald Lebaron Giddens, Jr. and Amari Harris.
