Woodrow T. McGehee Jr.

September 14, 1948 — December 13, 2023

Waveland, MS

Woodrow 'Woody' T. McGehee Jr - Late of Waveland, MS, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Woodland Village.  Age 75.

On a September night in 1948, at the then Camp Hood Texas Army hospital, Mae and Pfc. Woodrow McGehee senior welcomed their new baby boy, Woodrow Theodore McGehee, Jr. Woodrow was known, by many reading this obituary, as Woody. In his 75 years, Woody traveled many roads; some as a Marine and some as a big-rig truck driver. Some of his roads were low and tough; some were high and easy; and then there was one road that led him home.

Woody found his road home when he found Jesus. He enjoyed sharing the gospel by singing at area churches, doing life with community, and serving others in their time-of-need. Woody was a big man with a deep commanding voice and who enjoyed a good laugh. He met few strangers and was loved by many. Woody was known as Paw-Paw and a favorite at Woodland Village Nursing Center, where he lived and passed in Diamondhead, MS.

On 13, December 2023, Woody traveled the road that took him to his eternal home in heaven. In the words of Billy Graham when asked about his own death, he said, on that day, I’ll be more alive than I’ve ever been. We can have peace, and even rejoice, in knowing that Woody is more alive today than he’s ever been. In the April 2024 timeframe, there will be an interment for Woody at the Biloxi National Cemetery and a celebration of life. Complete details will follow in March using this obituary web link and social media. In lieu of flowers, please remember Woody by blessing someone through a random act of love.

Woody is preceded in death by Father- Woodrow McGehee, senior; Mother- Mae Knoblock; Brother- Billy McGehee; and Sister- Glynda Chiasson.

He is survived by a brother Kenny Mitchell; his sisters Colleen Lagasse and Voncelle Zeringue; his son Michael Ledet and daughter Jackie Capehart.  Four grandchildren Brandon Ledet, Jordan McGehee; Amber and Cody Capehart. Three great-grandchildren- Amari, Araya, and Ana Capehart; like a Granddaughter- Darien Blackmon and like Great Grandchildren- Holly Langley and Zoey Trentham; Numerous nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law. Woody will indeed be missed by all.
