William A. ""Bill"" Young, Jr. joined God's Heavenly choir on December 22, 2012. He was born in Crystal Springs, MS on August 2, 1930 to William A. and Lucille Young. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Howard, ""Sonny"" Alford, Johnny Alford, a sister Katherine Alford and granddaughter Lauren Young.
He joined the Air Force in 1950 and served in Japan and Korea.
Bill attended Crystal Springs Consolidated School and went on to get a degree in Geology at Southern and worked as a mud engineer for Megcobar in South Louisiana for several years. He got a Pharmacy degree in 1962 from Ole Miss. While there he was on the Dean's list and was President of Rho Chi Fraternity. He worked at Lawrence Drug in Laurel, MS until 1964 when he came to Memorial Hospital and was there for 32 years where he was Director of Pharmacy for 17 of those years.
Bill had a beautiful singing voice and sang in the choir at Gulfport First United Methodist Church. He loved to sing karaoke and was known to break into song for the sheer joy of singing. He enjoyed his life and his many friends. He was a loving, outgoing person who loved to tell jokes, as only he could, and leave people with a smile. He was a true Southern gentleman. He will be greatly missed and he leaves a tremendous void.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Margie to whom he was married for 31 years. They considered themselves soul mates and best friends who enjoyed the same things and especially each other. Also surviving are his former wife of 13 years, Joan Tillery Young and their two sons, Walter Bruce Young (Donna) and grandson Derek and William Brian Young (Carla) and granddaughter Samantha and grandson, Issac; a sister, Dorothy Ainsworth, St Louis, MO; nieces, Debra Gammans (Nelson), Sally Hadden (Wayne); nephews, Howard ""Scooter"" Alford, Perron Alford (Sharon) and Peter Alford (Tracy) and their children. He also leaves behind his cherished friend and golfing buddy, Don West and his devoted cat, Ming.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Richard Tilley, Dr. Craig Dawkins, and Cameilla Hospice for their loving care of our beloved, Bill.
