William Edward Newport, Jr., 88, passed away March 23, 2018 in Biloxi.
Mr. Newport was born in Nashville, TN to William Edward Newport, Sr. and Magalene Griswold, now deceased.
He was a graduate of Browns High School in Browns, IL.  Mr. Newport joined the U.S. Air Force and was on active duty at Scott Air Force Base, ILL.  After the military service, he and his wife settled in Biloxi where they were active in the community.  Mr. Newport was a member of 1st United Methodist Church of Biloxi and had served on the administrative board and was a volunteer with the youth group.  He was previously a Master of Fellowship Masonic Lodge No. 630 in Biloxi, member of Gulfport Scottish Rite Bodies and served as Worthy Patron, Chapter 388 Order of Eastern Star.
After Mr. Newport retired from his electronic training manager career at Keesler Air Force Base, he enjoyed camping, woodworking, family reunions in Illinois. He also enjoyed his cats and watching all sports on TV, especially his favorite, St. Louis Cardinals.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, the former Wilma J. Hering, and one sister, Marguerite Newport Rude of Illinois.
Survivors include his nieces, Charlotte Barclay (Ray) of Riverton, IL, Donna Dinsmore (Mike) of Fairfield, sister in law, Emma Searby of IL, brother in law, Earl Hering (Ruth) of St. Petersburg, FL and many Newport and Hering great nieces and great nephews.  He is also survived by special friends, David and Danna Bounds, Jamie Wilson (Steve), and Daniel Bounds (Amanda) and children.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, March 27, 2018 from 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM with funeral services at 11:30 AM at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Rd. Biloxi.
Interment will follow the services at Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Ave. Biloxi, MS.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children at 2900 Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL  33607.  List in memory of William Newport with where you would like acknowledgement sent.  Also donations can be sent to any pet humane shelter.
