William M. Montgomery passed away surrounded by his family on July 11, 2015.
He was born on March 9, 1925 in Jackson, Mississippi to the late Marshall B. Montgomery and Ethel Williamson Montgomery.
He is preceded in death by his son Byron M. Montgomery of Colleyville, Texas.
He is survived by five daughters Anne Amelia Kimmell (Michael) of Olympia, WA, Megan Patricia Brown of Guilford, Ct, Donna E. Thom (Larry) of Abita Springs, LA, Rebecca J. Montgomery of Long Beach, MS, and Lois M. Stubbs (Mark) of Weselberg, Germany; Two sons, George M. Brown of NYC, NY, and William M. Montgomery, Jr. (Sharon) of Westminster, MD; twenty -seven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren.
William graduated from Central High School in Jackson, MS in 1942.
He served in the U.S. Navy for three years during WWII in the Southwest Pacific. After serving his country, he attended Mississippi State College graduating in 1951 with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. Following graduation, he served in the U.S. Air Force until his retirement in June of 1970. He then worked at Keesler A.F.B. for twenty years travelling the world as an electronics engineer.
While in the Navy, William served in the Pacific seeing duty in Australia, Okinawa, and The Philippines. During his Air Force career, he served in Italy and many U.S. locations including Alaska and Hawaii.
William was a leader in The Pine Burr Area Council, Boy Scouts of America for over twenty years and a volunteer at the Long Beach Community Food Pantry for twenty-five years. He was a member of Long Beach Presbyterian Church.
Services will take place at Long Beach Presbyterian Church on Thursday, July 16 at 12:00pm. Visitation will be held 10:30 - 12:00. Graveside services will follow at 1:30 at the National Cemetery in Biloxi, MS.
