William "Leroy" Richards

William "Leroy" Richards, a man known for his diverse skill set and loving devotion to his family, passed away on June 23, 2023, in Gulfport, MS. Leroy was born in Virginia on November 30, 1956. He was a beloved father, stepfather, and proud grandfather who will be deeply missed by all.

Leroy's career was marked by his incredible aptitude for fixing things. He truly embodied the phrase "Jack of all trades" as there was no challenge he couldn't overcome. His determination and expertise allowed him to tackle any problem that came his way.

However, Leroy's greatest source of pride and joy were his sons and grandchildren. He cherished every moment spent with them and ensured that they felt loved and supported. On Sundays, you could find Leroy cheering passionately for either the Dallas Cowboys or the New Orleans Saints, immersing himself in the spirit of the game.

Aside from being a dedicated family man, Leroy was also a valued member of FJB. 

Leroy served his country with honor as a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Enlisting as a Naval Aviation Mechanic, and later becoming a Seabee, he utilized his skills to contribute to the defense and wellbeing of his nation.

Leroy's passing leaves behind an immense void in the lives of those who loved him dearly. He is preceded in death by his beautiful wife of 25 years, Sandra Douglas Richards; his parents, Lester Omer Richards and Eleanor Marie Carroll Richards; as well as his brothers, Gary Richards and Timmy Richards. Their memories will forever be treasured by those who knew him best.

He is survived by a loving family who will continue to carry on Leroy's legacy. His sons Shane Richards (Amanda) of Mt. Holly Springs, PA and Travis Richards (Destiny) of St. Augustine, FL, along with his stepchildren Christopher Fairley (Ashley) of Dallas, TX; Christle Burnham (Michael) of Gulfport, MS; and Clayton Fairley of Gulfport, MS will forever cherish the love and guidance he provided.

Leroy's grandchildren, Savannah, Shyanne, Jude, Michaela, Fletcher, Sawyer, Lennon, Mariah, and Stella brought immeasurable happiness to his life. He adored them with all his heart and cherished every moment spent with them. His love for his family was unwavering.

Additionally, Leroy formed a special bond with his mother-in-law Zelma Douglas of Gulfport, MS throughout the years. They became extremely close and shared a deep connection that will endure beyond his lifetime.

William "Leroy" Richards will be remembered as a loving father, dedicated veteran, avid football fan who brought people together through his talents and warm personality. He will be greatly missed. However, his family knows that his reunion with the love of his life, Sandy, his parents, and brothers was filled with joy and love and lots of catching up.  Rest Easy Pops ... we will look for you in the Stars!
