William L. Hiles, 80, received his final PCS orders on Monday, September 14, 2015 and is standing watch at Heaven's Gate.
He was born December 23, 1934 in Idaho, Ohio. He was a veteran of Vietnam and had over 40 years of military and federal government service. His assignments took him to more than 40 countries, territories and islands. He retired in November 1998 in Washington, D.C. from the United States Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hallie Hiles; and three brothers, Charles, John and Forrest Hiles.
He is survived by his wife of over fifty-seven years, Janet L. Myers Hiles; one daughter, Brenda L. Hiles of Long Beach; one son, Steven P. Hiles of Vancleave; his grandchildren, (Steven's children) Cassandra ""Cassie"" West, Jennifer Suber, Nathan W. Hiles and Christopher Garrett; and his great-grandchildren, Cassie's children: Tyler Raymond West, Brantley Pride and Colin Lee West; Jennifer's children: Garret Cameron Garrett, Conner Grayson Suber and Kaylieh Alexis Garrett.
He was a Life Member of the First Marine Division, a member of the Mississippi Chapter First Marine Division Association, Marine Corps League, and a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church in Biloxi, where a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 24th. Friends my visit one hour prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Interment with military honors will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. at the National Cemetery in Biloxi.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethel Free Clinic, Biloxi, MS.
