William Percy Gober, age 96, of Wiggins, formerly of Biloxi, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He proudly served his country in World War II, serving in the U.S. Army 68th Tank Battalion where he earned the Bronze Star for each of the following campaigns - Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, and Germany.
Mr. Gober was preceded in death by his wife, Winnifred Melton Gober; his father, W.C. Gober and his mother, Carrie Gober; six siblings, Charlotte, Harry, Myra, Carson, Kate, and Annie; a daughter, Brenda Gober; and a grandson, William Blake.
He is survived by his daughters, Rita Blake (Del) and Marcia Schrantz (Ladd); two grandchildren, Joey Bentz (Angela) and Tonia Sheely; five great grandchildren, Andrew Bentz, Caleb Sheely, Katie Bentz, Elijah Bentz, and Lydia Bentz; and many nieces and nephews that he loved so much.
We wish to give our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Paul Matherne and our Notre Dame Hospice family, Rev. Jim Kirkendall, MDiv, Jennifer, Sonia, Susie, Aurora, Craig, Fanta, Miriam, and Sam, without whom it would not have been possible to keep our Dad at home. They provided excellent medical and spiritual care. God Bless.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 27, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Rd, Gulfport.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at 10am in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
