Warren Hinton Poarch

Colonel Warren Hinton Poarch, age 81, passed away peacefully at home on November 13, 2024, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Pearl Poarch, and his brother Wayne Poarch. 

Warren is survived by his wife Sally Townsend Poarch, his children Susan Poarch Smith (Mark Gibson) and Michael Warren Poarch (Christine), and seven grandchildren Kathryn Smith Heuer (Doug), Regan Poarch, Jenna Smith, Grant Poarch, Riley Poarch, Declan Smith, and Cara Smith. 

Warren was born in Richmond, Virginia, and grew up in a loving Christian family on a farm in southern Virginia. Warren was known to many as “Putt”, a nickname he inherited from his father. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a degree in Civil Engineering and later earned his Master’s degree from George Washington University. He was a licensed Professional Engineer in Virginia, Mississippi and Louisiana.

He was loyal, very patriotic, generous and fun. He served more than 31 years in the US Army where he retired as a Colonel. Warren also worked with the US Department of Energy in New Orleans, LA, for over 30 years. In his free time, he participated in Newcomers’ Club of New Orleans and took many trips with the love of his life, Sally.

In 2004, Warren and Sally moved to the MS Gulf Coast where they enjoyed many happy times. Warren loved fishing, his grandchildren, and the easy life which he earned and so richly deserved. He was also a devoted member of First United Methodist Church in Long Beach and an active member of the Pass Christian Yacht Club.

Services honoring Warren are planned for Friday, November 29, 2024. A memorial service is at First Methodist Church in Long Beach at 3:00 p.m. A celebration of life will follow the service.
