In Memory of Warren Barbour

Warren Keaton Barbour was born on October 24, 1928, to Arthur and Bernice Barbour in Spokane, Washington. Warren is survived by four children.

Although Warren’s life took him around the world, Spokane remained the place he proudly called home.

After graduating from high school, Warren joined the United States Air Force and embarked on a career that would span more than 20 years of active service. During his military career, he served in both Korea and Vietnam, and later served in Japan with a weather reconnaissance squadron as a Radio Operator before retiring from the Air Force.

Following his military service, Warren worked as an engineering technician. But his dedication to service did not end with his military career. Warren had a true volunteer spirit. He volunteered as a dishwasher at a senior center and later brought that same spirit of service to the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport, where he served as an administrative volunteer.

After becoming a widower, Warren learned about the Armed Forces Retirement Home through an Air Force newsletter. He applied to live at AFRH-Gulfport, but while waiting for an opening, he spent a short time at AFRH-Washington. In a way, Warren got to experience the best of both worlds before making Gulfport his home.

Warren had many interests and talents, but one of his true passions was creating perfumes and soaps. He had a gift for pairing scents and appreciated both their beauty and their holistic purposes. His handmade soaps were truly luxurious, reflecting the care and creativity he put into everything he made.

Perhaps Warren’s greatest gift, however, was his ability to connect with people. He could talk to anyone about almost anything, and he always managed to keep the conversation interesting. His stories, curiosity, humor, and genuine interest in others made him a wonderful companion and a treasured friend.

Warren was a true and dedicated friend to his fellow residents and to the staff of AFRH. His willingness to volunteer, share his talents, and simply spend time talking with others left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to know him.

Warren’s remarkable life was one of service, adventure, creativity, and friendship. His presence will be deeply missed, but the memories of his stories, his generosity, and his unmistakable spirit will remain with us.

Rest peacefully, Warren. Your love, service and friendship will not be forgotten.
