Walter Lee Atkinson

TSGT Walter Lee Atkinson, USAF, Ret., age 78, of D'Iberville, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2013, in Biloxi.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Annie Kate Atkinson, and brother, Robert Atkinson.
Mr. Atkinson is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Charlene Atkinson, 1 son, Michael (Ealon) Atkinson, 3 loving granddaughters, Destiny Atkinson, Tonya Radford, Maegan Radford, 2 great-grandchildren, Brendan Williams, and Ashtyn Jackson, a sister, Mildred (Sanford) Ryals, 2 brothers, Charles Atkinson, and Willard Atkinson, and several nieces, nephews, other relatives.
Mr Atkinson was a native of Philadelphia, MS and later served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star. He retired from the USAF after 20 years of honorable service as a TSGT serving on bases in Alaska, Aleutian Islands, Japan, and Vietnam and later worked for Rent-All at KAFB, and then Penske Trucking in Biloxi. He was a member of Hamasa Shrine Temple, Meridian, MS, Masonic Lodge in Philadelphia, MS, and was a Life Member VFW Post 6731. Mr. Atkinson was the ""go to"" guy for his family and friends always willing to help or assist when called. He enjoyed all types of handy work, wood working, and spending time outdoors especially in his yard. He will be remembered most for being a loving husband, father, and paw paw.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 27, 2013, from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 274 Beauvoir Road, Biloxi. The funeral service will be at 1:30 pm in the funeral home chapel.
Interment with full Air Force Honors will be held in Biloxi National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
