Virginia Clay

Virginia Clay, age 87, departed with the angels on Sunday, April 15, 2018. Virginia was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed her church family, Sunday school class, baking (especially desserts) and spending time with her husband planting flowers and keeping the birds and squirrels fed.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Lelia Peters, a son, Gary Clay, sisters Elizabeth McWilliams and Marie Wells, brothers Thomas and Robert Pope, and James (Pete) Peters.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Guy A. Clay Sr., a son Guy Clay Jr. and his wife Susie, four grandchildren, Jared and his wife Laura, Shelby Clay, Brianne Clay and Nathan Clay, 5 great-grandchildren, Morgan and Landon Fielder, Jaxin Clay, Carter and Cooper Clay, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Virginia was blessed to have all of her family living in Gulfport.
Virginia was born in Bolivar County in north Mississippi and moved to the coast in 1941.  She was a graduate of Perkinston High School and Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Hattiesburg. She was an office nurse for the late Dr. Rogers before working at the VA Hospital where she retired after 30 years of service. After retirement she and her husband enjoyed visiting landmarks, gardening, church and family gatherings.
Virginia was a long time devoted member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church in Gulfport.
The family would like to thank the caring staff at Lakeview Nursing center, Charlie Ray (Pastor), Grace Memorial members and friends who offered prayers and support daily.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, from 10 - 11 am at Grace Memorial Baptist Church, 2301 23rd Avenue, Gulfport.  The funeral service will be at 11 am in the church.  Burial will be in Floral Hill Memorial Gardens.
