Devoted mother and friend, Virginia Lizana Bazzell , age 92, passed away on April 23, 2018.
She grew up and lived most of her life in Pineville. She is preceded in death by her husband Clifton Richard Bazzell, her parents Eugene and Jesse Lizana; brother Lelion; sisters, Audrey Manuel, Marion Glassey, Della Mevius; and her son-in-law, Keith Morgan.
She is survived by her sisters, Joyce Cuevas and Wilma Necaise; Sons, Richard (Margaret) Bazzell and Doug (Beverly) Bazzell; daughter, Connie Morgan; six grandchildren, Norma McCaleb and husband Jeff, Richard Bazzell Jr. and wife Elizabeth, Aaron Bazzell and wife Sarah, Nic Bazzell and wife Katie, Karrah Morgan-Watkins and husband Shane, and Connor Morgan; fourteen greatgrandchildren, Tyler McCaleb, Alli (Josh) Baker, Braden McCaleb, Haley Bazzell, Alexis Bazzell, Savannah Bazzell, Curtis Bazzell, Scarlett and Mary Ella Bazzell, Jules and Artie Grey Bazzell, and Hadlee, Austyn, and Collier Watkins, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mom, Granny, Gino, Aunt Gino, Aunt Ginny, Aunt Granny, Granny Gumbo, Granny Zell; Virginia went by many names and all were terms of affection.
She loved being surrounded by her family and friends; her home was an open door known as Gino's Bed and Breakfast! "Sit down. Come on in! Have a cup of coffee! Are you hungry?" are all the memories made at her dining room table and kitchen.
Her past times were fiddlin' in the yard when she was able, pickin' blueberries and plantin' new flowers. She would watch the birds and squirrels through the glass doors every day and named her turtle Pokey. She enjoyed watching Dr. Phil but only so she could give him better advice.
She was always willing to give help and advice, whether needed or not. Don't disturb her while watching her soaps or Wheel of Fortune.
She was a huge Mardi Gras fan, always decked out in her hats and matching, handmade, Mardi Gras shoes. Although a Saints fan (only because her son was) she thought watching football was a waste of time, yet she always managed to have Sunday dinner prepared by halftime so her husband and sons wouldn't miss a play. She didn't care for sports but would attend basketball games because her son, Doug, was playing and then coaching. A mother figure to all of her younger sisters, and she never stopped raising her children. God willing, you can rest assured that she will be waiting for all of us at Heaven's gates with hot coffee and fresh gallette. Our hope and prayer is that everyone is left with the love and laughter that we all have because of this precious lady.
We would like to say thank you to the staff of Kindred Hospice, Dixie White House nursing home, and special thanks to her main caregiver and daughter-in-law Margaret Bazzell, and her additional caregivers Barbra Connolly, Jenny Shiyou, Katherine Diliberto, and Angela Polk.
