Virgil Johnson

Virgil Johnson 89, of Gulfport MS, died at his home on Thursday, December 5th, 2024.

Mr. Johnson, a native of the Success community, retired as a branch Vice-President from Hancock Bank after 43 years.

He served in the U.S. Army, was recalled to active duty during the Berlin Wall crisis, and was a 32nd-degree Mason. He was a member and deacon of New Hope Baptist Church in Gulfport MS, and a pillar of the Orange Grove community. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Mr & Mrs. Claude Johnson; his five brothers, Kermit Johnson, Earl Johnson, Claude Johnson, Noah Johnson, and Clark Johnson; and three sisters; Versie Pechart, Vivian Moss, and Eva Spears.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Carlee Johnson, his daughter Andrea Johnson, his son Derrick Johnson grandson Ryan Woodcock, granddaughter Rebecca Woodcock, and 7 great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be held on Tuesday 10 December from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Riemann Memorial Funeral Home, Three Rivers Road Gulfport Mississippi. The funeral will be Wednesday 11 December at 2:00 PM at the funeral home chapel, followed by a burial at the Johnson–Bethel Cemetery on Rankin J. Old Place (101 Road).
