Victor Igich, 78, was called home on August 3, 2014. Born in Temska, a village near Pirot, Yugoslavia. At a young age, Victor joined the Yugoslavian military and even became part of the private guard of President Josip Tito as well as an instructor to new recruits. He then requested release from his duty to attend medical school. Before completion, he took the opportunity and immigrated to America. There, he found his career in respiratory therapy at Gulfport Memorial Hospital. Victor is credited for the invention of the self-sealing humidifier for inhalation therapy, the Intermittent Inflation of ET and trach tube cuff, the IV loop and variants of the IV Arm board. He was also the owner of US Medical Supply, American Homes Inc and Max's Cars on Credit. Out of all of his achievements, his greatest was his children. He often said that raising his children was even better than his college years.
Like all great geniuses, Victor was not without his eccentricities. He referred to all the elderly as Young Man or Young Woman. He loved honey and women, so it only made sense that he called every lady Honey. He was known to occasionally play an impromptu game of Hide and Seek with his children, driving them crazy and giving the local police and fire departments a test of their search-and-rescue skills. They found him every time, so either he isn't very good at hiding or we don't give our police and fire departments enough credit. He also enjoyed a good game of Chess and was the reigning champion, taking only one loss to his son-in-law which doesn't really count, as it was an exhibition match. He was also a fan of John Wayne, the classic Westerns and Nikola Tesla.
He is preceded in death by his father, Panta, and mother, Draga KrsticÌ IgicÌ. He is survived by his sister, Vera IgicÌ, mother of his children, Katica Unfeter Herman, and his children, Vidoje Brezjnak of Croatia, and his children in the United States, Max Victor, Zandra Irina and Samantha Victoria. A special thank you goes to the Johnson family, who shared in life and love with him. Victor was full of love, passion and life that left a positive lasting impression in his wake.
There will be a celebration of Victor's life and everyone is invited to bring a covered dish and share memories with everyone. The ceremony will be August 19th, 2014 at 6pm at the Slavonian Lodge in Biloxi, MS.
