Ulrich Carlton Pool

(Ulrich) Carlton Pool, 83, left this life peacefully at his home in Diamondhead, Mississippi on Thursday, April 25, 2024. His beloved wife, Soni, his constant companion, caretaker, and joyful partner, was with him in his final moments.

Carlton was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on July 14, 1940, to Frank and Thelma Pool. He was the older brother to TJ (Thelma Jean), Joe David, and Laquita. Carlton was a beloved (and spoiled) grandson, nephew, and cousin who spent memorable and meaningful times with family in both Texas and Louisiana.

Education was one of Carlton's great passions in life. After his formal schooling at LaGrange High School in Lake Charles, LA at at Louisiana State University, Carlton dedicated his professional life to educating others for more than 35 years. Using his repertoire of east Texas witticisms and his love of written word, "Mr. Pool" was one of the coolest junior high English teachers. When he left the classroom to become a school guidance counselor, he became even more connected to students' lives, helping them navigate the challenges and joys of early adulthood.
Carlton's passion for writing poetry and reading was matched by his love for action and the outdoors. Riding motorcycles, practicing karate, hunting, fishing, exercising at the gym- Carlton loved being and doing with his friends. He loved a good story, a good laugh, and a good time. Whether listening to the sounds of nature or to Willie Nelson or Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, Carlton enjoyed having time to reflect on the importance of family and friends.

Carlton was preceded in death by his parents, Ulrich Franklin and Thelma Pool; sister, Thelma Jean; and numerous beloved friends and extended family. He is survived by his wife, Soni (Sandra) Pool of Diamondhead, MS; daughter, Carlen (Beaman) Floyd of Austin, Texas; granddaughter, Katie (Daniel) Wang of Houston, Texas; granddaughter, Anna Floyd of Bozeman, Montana; his new great-grandson, Sage Tao Wang; siblings, Joe David Pool of DeRidder, LA and Laquita Roberts of Moss Bluff, LA; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you enjoy a quiet moment, remember Carlton, and give thanks for what joy he brought to your life.

Riemann Family Funeral Home, Pass Christian, is honored to serve the Pool family.
