Teresa De Jesus Cadavid Cabrera

Teresa De Jesus Cadavid Cabrera was born August 28, 1926, the Daughter of Manuel and Juana Cadavid and the sister of Manuel and Jose Cadavid, in Havana, Cuba, and was a descendant of Spain.

Teresa was the wife of Rev. Alfredo Augustin Cabrera, the love of her life until her death, and the mother of Rebeca Teresa Cabrera Boudreaux and Jorge Alfredo Cabrera.

In 1961, during the Bay of Pigs, when her homeland of Cuba was taken over by dictatorship, Teresa and her family, including her father/mother-in-law, Alfredo and Nena Cabrera, migrated to New Orleans. Teresa was a talented and dedicated seamstress of over 25 years at DH Holmes department store on Canal Street, from which she retired. Teresa and her husband Alfredo founded the Iglesia Bautista de Getsemani Church, and after Alfredo’s death, she continued to be a lifelong member.

Teresa was a wonderful example of what she believed to be her purpose here, and prided herself in being a Christian woman of love, humility, kindness, gratefulness, happiness, giving, and laughter. She felt blessed, and she treasured all of her family, including her grandchildren, Annette Boudreaux Gosden, Edward Boudreaux, Jorge Cabrera II and Michelle Cabrera, as well as her 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Teresa wanted her last words to be shared with everyone she loved.
