Sybil Jean Megehee Pigott

February 13, 1933 — June 28, 2016

Sybil Jean Megehee was born in Pearl River County, MS on February 13, 1933 to Joseph and Annie Gillentine Megehee. She grew up on the family farm and attended Industrial High School where she graduated in 1952. She worked at Thigpen Hardware from 1952 to 1956, as a secretary. She began working at Gulf National Bank in 1964 and retired as Operations Manager with The People's Bank in 1994.
Sybil married Daris Pigott on May 6, 1953, and moved to Gulfport in 1956. They had three children, Karen, Kathy, and Elizabeth; seven grandchildren, Nancy, Joseph, Joshua, Brian, Andrew, Laura, and Annie; and twelve great-grandchildren, Caileigh, Bobby, Serenity, Timothy, Jessica, Stephen, Emma, Shawn, Logan, Colin, Riley, and Hudson.
She always enjoyed literature in school, and reading. She wrote short stories to pass the time and had two articles published in the Tombigbee Country Magazine. She has written several manuscripts on family history and compiled a history on each family line. Through her research, she has met many relatives that she would otherwise have never known. Sybil felt that genealogy was addictive. Once you start, she said, there is no place to stop. It seems there is always another page that needs to be added.
She wrote a book entitled ""Love, Fox Grapes and Boley Creek: Childhood Memories"". Her passion for genealogy, love of family, and words of comfort to those who remain are expressed through the book excerpts below:
""Each story was like another berry in a basket. The basket is not full, and probably never will be, but through these pages I share what I have found. Most of all, I wanted my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to know where they came from and the importance of family. How are they going to know where they are going unless they know where they came from?""
""As I grow older, the past takes on new meaning, and I sometimes wish to return to ask just one more question. Alas, the path is blocked, and I can only return to my memories. Although the path in front is short and filled with uncertainties, I can only go forward. I go forward with the knowledge and anticipation of a new home with a Heavenly Father and my family members who have gone on before me.""
