Susan Ford Whitfield, age 79 of Gulfport, passed away on Monday, May 17, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lecil and Ellis Ford and her brother, Robin Ford.
Susan is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Samuel Robert Whitfield, Sr.; her children, Samuel Robert (Emily) Whitfield, Jr. and Amanda “Mandy” (Josh) Walters; her grandchildren, Ellis Walters, Windham Walters, Sawyer Whitfield and Catherine Whitfield; and her sister, Christie Ford Davis.
Born and raised in Hugo, OK, Susan graduated from Hugo High School before earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Oklahoma University. During her time at Oklahoma University, she was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.
Susan met the love of her life, Bob Whitfield, in Dallas, and soon after their marriage, they made their home in Gulfport. Both of their children, Mandy and Sam, were born in Gulfport. Together, Susan and Bob were devoted members of Trinity Methodist Church for more than 50 years. She was an avid bridge player and looked forward to many winning hands and playing with all her friends. Susan deeply loved her grandchildren and was so proud of them and all their many accomplishments.
She was actively involved in her community through her memberships in Merry Maskers Carnival Association, Gulfport Junior Auxiliary Club, Millennium Club, Garden Club and Antique Club where she formed many lasting friendships and shared countless cherished memories.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Trinity Methodist Church, 5007 Lawson Ave., Gulfport, MS, with visitation beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at Garden of Memory Cemetery, Bay St. Louis.
Memorial contributions may be made in Susan’s name to Trinity Methodist Church.
