Sue Smart

Sue Smart, age 74 of Gulfport, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2020, at Keesler Medical Center in Biloxi.  She was a native of Arlington, VA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, CMC Leonard Smart, USN; her parents, Robert and Belle Butcher; and her sister, Sally Butcher.

Sue is survived by her only child, Justin Smart.

She earned a BS Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Southern Mississippi and worked several years in the banking/finance industry.  She also worked in booking for Harrison County Sheriff Department.  But her most important job of all was being a full time mother.

Growing up, Sue was involved with the Girl Scouts and while in high school, she played volleyball and the violin.  She loved playing tennis, was an avid reader, played the piano, did puzzles, sang in church, and tended to her plants and flowers.

She was the secretary of Presbyterian Women’s group at Handsboro Presbyterian Church.  Sue was a beloved wife, mother, and friend who always put everyone’s happiness before her own.

In lieu of flowers, please make any memorial contributions to The Humane Society of South MS and/or Handsboro Presbyterian Church in Gulfport, MS.

Services will be private and interment will occur at Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, MS.
