Steven James Steady

Steven J. Steady, 54, of Gulfport passed away on January 26, 2014, at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, LA after a brief battle with heart disease.
He was born in Plattsburgh, NY but grew up in Long Beach. He graduated from Long Beach High School in 1978 and obtained his associates degree from Ohlone College.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Steady, his maternal grandparents, John and Leta Marcotte, his uncle, Larry Marcotte and his nephew and godson, Michael Mate Jr.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Davis; his children, Steven Paul, Slade, Siera, and Savanah; his sisters, Susan Mate (Mike), Donna Sizemore (Greg), Joy Yates (Joey), Dee Seguin (Tim), and Cheri Roberts, his nieces and nephews, and his bird, Bugsy.
Steve spent most of his life working on the water. He was a tankerman for Westar Marine in San Francisco, CA and then dispatched for them until he returned home to the coast. At the time of his illness, he was working at the Grand Casino Biloxi as a security guard and also at the D'Iberville Sportsplex.
He loved the beach and spending time with his family. He enjoyed how much he annoyed us all with his never serious sense of humor in every conversation. His children were his world and he always made sure they had what they wanted regardless of the cost. No matter how low or hard life got, he was always the best father he could be.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 30, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport with a visitation for family and friends from 1:00 pm until the service. Burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery in Pass Christian.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association.
