Steve Hicks

May 7, 1956 — March 3, 2018

Stephen (Steve) William Hicks died March 3, 2018 at home in Long Beach.  Steve was born in Atlanta, GA on May 7, 1956 to Clyde and Nancy DeMarcus Hicks, the second of four sons.  When Steve was very young, the family moved to Long Beach where he remained until the time of his death.  Steve spent his elementary years at St. Thomas Catholic School and graduated from Long Beach High School in 1976.  After high school he began a twenty-five year career in service, parts and sales with several Ford dealerships along the coast.  After Hurricane Katrina, he worked with the Army Corps of Engineers and Compton Engineering until his retirement.
Steve enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved living the "salt life" and enjoyed boating, fishing, and water sports. He loved the MS Coast, but Long Beach held a special place in his heart. He considered his greatest accomplishment to be his sons whom he loved dearly.  He cherished time spent on the water with his sons and passed his love for the Coast on to them.
He is preceded in death by his father, Clyde L. Hicks, and his grandparents. He is survived by his mother, Nancy Hicks, his best friend Andi Acuff, and her mother Merry, all of Long Beach, his two sons, Stephen (Ashley) Hicks of Diamondhead and Shane Hicks of Long Beach. "Pappy" is survived by his precious granddaughter, Macie Hicks, and was awaiting the arrival of his second grandchild in April. He is survived by his three brothers, Mike (Cheryl) Hicks, David (Lorie) Hicks, Kevin (Sheryl) Hicks, his nieces and nephews Amber, Amanda, Tiffany and Kalyn, Doug, Derek and Brandon, his very special uncle, Calvin Hicks, and his aunt, Bonnie Ellison and his cousins.  He leaves behind his canine companions Bo, Sophie and Little Bit but he is now re-united with his best canine buddy, Paco.  Steve leaves behind many, many friends to mourn his passing and cherish his memory.
The family wishes to acknowledge and express our appreciation for Dr. Cory Carter and his staff for their concern, care and guidance throughout this difficult journey.
