Shirley was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose generous heart touched everyone she met. She lived a life marked by kindness, compassion, and a genuine desire to help others. She gladly went without so someone else could have what they needed- a spirit she shared with her beloved husband, Clyde. Their generosity and love live on in the many lives they touched.
She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Booneville, Arkansas, where she raised her children in the love of God and built her family’s foundation in faith.
Shirley spent many years working in several states, including California, where she met her lifelong friend, Maria “Tillie” Bradshaw, who passed away just four days before she did. Their friendship was unmatched- full of laughter, loyalty, and love.
After marrying Clyde, Shirley devoted herself to raising their children on the family farm in Arkansas. She instilled in them a deep love for God and a commitment for serving others. Her faith was her greatest gift to her family, and she lived it out through her kindness, compassion, and giving heart.
In addition to running the family farm, Shirley worked as a caregiver for the elderly- a job she truly loved.
She enjoyed reading her Bible and her many books (her shelves were always full). She loved crocheting, and she also loved to draw and paint nature scenery, often using photographs she took as inspiration.
In her later years, nothing brought her greater joy than swimming and going to the beach. The waves and dolphins brought her peace and comfort. Simple pleasures delighted her- shrimp and iced tea at any beachside restaurant, she loved coffee and a bagel at the little bookshops across from the water, Mardi Gras parades, and quiet moments by the ocean.
Shirley also loved family fun times, especially “Cruising the Coast”, riding around in her favorite “hoopty ride” listening to music, admiring classic cars. They reminded her of her youth and always brought a smile to her face.
Everyone who met Shirley loved her. Her smile could brighten any room, and her acceptance and warmth made every person feel seen and cared for.
Shirley’s final years were marked by unwavering devotion from her daughter, Shana who remained faithfully by her side, and by her “favorite son-in-law”, Chad, whose calm presence brought her comfort when no one else could. Even when dementia dimmed her memory, Shirley ended each night saying, “Thank you for taking care of me. I love you.”
These words will be treasured forever.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date, so family and friends may gather to honor Shirley’s beautiful life and the love she poured into others.
In accordance with Shirley’s wishes, the family requests donations be made in her memory to any organization of your choice that supports Dementia research, or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Her family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with her husband, Clyde, after 24 years apart, whole, restored, and held in the arms of God.
Riemann Family Funeral Home, Pass Christian, is honored to serve the family.
