Shirley Linn Carpenter of Pass Christian, MS passed away on November 2, 2017 at the age of 84. She was born in Kansas City, MO in 1933 where she and her husband Marvin attended Central High School together in Kansas City. They married in 1952 and would have celebrated 65 years of marriage on November 30th.
Shirley's love for her family and music were surpassed only by her love for her Savior. She played the organ at every church she attended including First Baptist Long Beach and First Baptist Pass Christian. Always active in her community, Shirley was President of the Gulf Coast ARC, President of the Gulfport-Harbor Square Merchants Association, Member of Gulfport Altrusa Club and numerous other organizations. In 1974 she purchased a small print shop, High Speed Copy Center and built the business into five locations across the Coast. Even after twice losing her home in both Hurricane Camille and Hurricane Katrina, Shirley would say "Life isn't about the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain."
Shirley is survived by her husband and the Love of Her Life, Marvin Carpenter, her 4 children; Nancy Reed, Craig Carpenter, Tim Carpenter & Lori Carpenter, as well as 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
It was Shirley's wish that in lieu of flowers, contributions be sent to either First Baptist Church, Long Beach or The First Baptist Church, Pass Christian to support the churches' music program.
