Sherri Lynn Grier, 62, of Saucier, MS, met the Lord Jesus, Whom she loved and served, face-to-face on December 14, 2017 in Gulfport, MS.
Sherri Lynn Grier, or "Miss Lynn" as she was often called, was born to Evelyn and John Grier on December 5, 1955. She went to high school at Harrison Central High School graduating in 1973. She went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education (1977) from the University of Southern Mississippi where she enjoyed playing clarinet in the Pride of Mississippi Marching Band. Lynn also earned a Master's degree in Elementary Education (1981) from William Carey University. She worked as an elementary school teacher for the Harrison County School District for 20 years touching the lives of hundreds of children. During that time "Miss Lynn" served as pianist and youth minister at Bel-Aire Baptist Church of Gulfport where she enjoyed many mission trips with students who became her "children". In 2006, Lynn began working at Bay Vista Baptist Church of Biloxi as both the director of the Early Education Center and church secretary, then, soon after, as pianist and music ministry assistant. In addition, she volunteered her time serving as puppet ministry leader, AWANA worker, and most recently choir director. Lynn retired from the Mississippi State University Extension Service in April of 2017. She was an accomplished musician as a pianist, accompanist, singer, piano teacher, and choir director. In addition to music, Lynn enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, laughing and also won many awards for her photography.
Miss Lynn is survived by numerous relatives whom she adored, an abundant amount friends whom she loved like family, and innumerable "children" from her school and ministry work. (If you were part of her class or student ministry she'd say, "They're one of mine.")
She is preceded in death by her father, John Wilson Grier; mother, Evelyn Irene Carlisle Grier; and infant brother, Michael Grier.
