Shaunelle Marie King was born on October 20, 1959, in Landstuhl, Germany, to Barbara Claire L’Herisse Hayes and Hubert Hayes of New Orleans, Louisiana. Raised in the strength, love, and traditions of her New Orleans family, Shaunelle carried those values proudly throughout her life.
Shaunelle was a devoted wife, a loving mother and grandmother, a loyal sister, and a faithful friend. She was known for her strength, quick wit, generous heart, and the fierce love she gave to everyone she held dear.
On April 27, 2025, Shaunelle peacefully departed this life, surrounded by her family’s love. She was reunited with her mother, Barbara Claire L’Herisse Hayes; her brothers, Hubert Hayes Jr. and Rodney Hayes; and her nephew, Nollie Jakob Griffin.
She leaves to cherish her memory her loving father, Hubert Hayes; her husband, Reginald King; her beloved daughters, Michelle (Rasheeda) Hutson-Crawford and Rochelle (Derrick) Dunbar; and her cherished grandchildren, Steven Ramsey Jr., Noah Ramsey, Braylon Brown, and grand-dog, Marley Jean Crawford.
She is also survived by her sisters and best-friends, Donna (Donald) Anderson and Patrice (Nollie) Griffin and protective brothers, Novell (Coreth) Hayes, Alvin (Connie) Hayes, Clinton (Vicki) Hayes, Darryl (Chaundra) Hayes, Rene (Hollie) Hayes, Scott (Camille) Hayes, and Terry (Lindi) Hayes; her in-laws; and a host of deeply loved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and colleagues.
Shaunelle proudly graduated from D’Iberville High School in 1978. She went on to build a successful career in the service industry, where she was known for her no-nonsense leadership style that was always rooted in love and laughter. She had a gift for seeing the best in her teams and pushed them to rise to their full potential. Her teams thrived under her guidance, drawn to her honesty, strength, and unwavering support.
As a dedicated military wife, Shaunelle traveled the world with her husband and daughters, building a life full of love, resilience, and new experiences.
Later, she pursued entrepreneurship, becoming the owner of A+ Construction Company and co-owner of Just For You gift shop. She retired from the service industry in 2022, leaving behind a legacy of excellence.
Shaunelle found great joy in the simple things — tending her garden, baking and cooking for her family, shopping, gambling, soulful talks, and making lasting memories with those she loved most. Her home was a place of refuge and joy, where warmth and love embraced everyone who entered.
Shaunelle’s beautiful spirit, enduring love, and strong legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
The King and Hayes families would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to her M.D. Anderson and Singing River medical care teams, Mrs. Lela Kinlock, and the staff of Gentiva Hospice. Your compassion, support, and care brought us comfort during a tender time. We are forever grateful.
