Obituary

Sarah Janell Stockmeyer, age 70, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2026, in Gulfport, MS, after a long battle with Alzheimer's and she was a lifelong resident of Gulfport.

Sarah was the daughter of Jack D and Sarah Chappell. She was a graduate of Gulfport East High, class of 1975.

She was an active member of Bel-Aire Baptist Church, teaching Awana and preschool age children. Sarah was a pharmacy technician at Memorial Hospital of Gulfport.

Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Sarah; her brothers, James (Margaret), Jack (Judy) and Robert Chappell; her In-laws, Edward and Joyce Stockmeyer; and her sister-in-laws, Pamela and Amy.

She was a very devoted mother and wife carrying for the entire household while John served his country for 20 years, deploying 8 times and she never once complained, NMCB One Ombudsman as well as the numerous activities the children participated in from band to softball and everything in between.

Sarah was the proverbial “quiet as a church mouse”, their love and dedication to each other grew and grew, through the years supporting each to the very end.

Her passion was reading and any chance she got was visiting the many zoos and wildlife refuges across the land, from Alaska to Bermuda and Florida.

Very thankful for the assistance from the church ladies helping Sarah before and after she was bedbound, and to my support team of friends as they were my lifeline.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years John, their 3 children: daughter, Stacy (and Stacy's daughters, Kaitlyn and Olivia); her sons, Matthew and Cory (Maria); and sister-in-law, Susan Glaser (John).

Special thanks to Stephen of Gentiva Hospice, her nurse who was compassionate and so caring of her; and to Home Instead’s Ms. Debra was a very professional sitter and was truly the best of the best.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alzheimer's Association .
