Sarah Jane Embry Cospelich, age 87 of Gulfport, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 46 years, Lou Gary Cospelich; her son, Stephen Embry Cospelich; her parents, Sion and Maurine Embry; her brothers, Scott (Carol) Embry, Joel (Ann) Embry and her sister, Virginia (Terry) McDavid.
Ms. Sarah is survived by her children, Joel (Rhonda) Cospelich, Jane Cospelich (Tim) Magee, Scott Cospelich and Julia Cospelich (Richard Smith), her grandchildren, Jennifer Moltman, Marshall Davis, Lauren Magee, Timothy “Will” (Elvia) Magee, Joshua Magee, Joseph Cospelich, Robert James, Heather Cospelich and Jana Cospelich; her eleven great grandchildren; her brother, James “Jim” Embry and numerous nieces and nephews.
Sarah was born and raised in Calhoun County, Mississippi, spending three years in Oklahoma before her family settled on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, where she graduated from Gulfport High School.
Following high school, Sarah met the love of her life, Lou, at a baseball game. Shortly thereafter, they married and were together for 46 years. She embraced her greatest role as a mother, lovingly raising five children. After her children were grown, she began a career at Kmart, where she worked in the receiving department for many years. She also found great joy in giving back to her community by volunteering at Gulfport High School, where she assisted with adult literacy programs.
Sarah had a passion for quilting, watching classic movies, solving crossword puzzles, and playing Memory Magic with her friends at Summerfield. She was an avid reader who especially treasured taking long walks along 2nd Street with her grandchildren, creating memories they will always cherish. She was a devoted member of the Baptist faith.
Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff and the many friends she made at Summerfield Senior Living in Gulfport for the compassion, kindness, and love they shared with Sarah throughout her time there.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, with visitation beginning at 9:00 am in the funeral home chapel. Graveside service to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Gulfport.
