Obituary

“It’s been a long journey,” she said—and with those words echoing in our hearts, Sandra Charlene Price slipped peacefully into God's arms on April 30, 2026, at the gentle age of 87 years old.

Born October 24, 1938, in Quitman, Mississippi, Charlene lived a life marked by service, gentleness, and quiet strength. After earning her RN degree, she devoted 35 years to nursing, caring for patients in Meridian, Hattiesburg, and Pascagoula. Orthopedics became her home, and her patients knew her as the nurse who listened, who steadied, who cared.

To her family, she was Mom and Granny Price, the soft place to land, the one who always listened when a knee was skinned or heart was broken. Her love stretched across generations—sons, grandchildren, great‑grandchildren—and she held each one close to heart.

In her later years, she settled in Lizana with her youngest son. Even as her health declined, she found joy in the small rhythms of life: the chickens scratching in the yard, the dogs at her feet, and her cherished kitty. She had the deepest soft spot for the most vulnerable of God's creatures -- Where Mom went, a stray was sure to follow.

Charlene also had strong faith in the Lord, and was of the Baptist Faith. Mom never boasted, and certainly not of her faith. Instead, she gently walked the walk. It was evident to anyone who spent time with her that there was a special peace inside her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William C. and Dorothy Thornhill Prince; her siblings, Donny Prince and Frances Mae Harris; and one infant son born sleeping. She leaves behind her sons, William Allen (Daniel) Price and Larry Joe (Rene`) Price; granddaughters, Jessica, Jennifer, Sarah, and Sidney Price; step‑grandsons, Ceann (Jamie) Lewis and Jacob Mullins; step‑grandchildren, Grayson Huson, River Lewis, and Theodore Lewis; and special friends including Joanna Pope and Christy Price. Her beloved pets—Miss Patches, Lily, Tinkerbell, and a rowdy flock of chickens—remain part of her legacy of care.

In the last month of Mom's journey, her grace and peace were a blessing to us. A stroke and age had made hearing and reading nearly impossible the year before, and then a second stroke in March took what was left. And yet a new joy came over her - in spite of even more greater challenges. She carried that joy with her on her final journey home. Godspeed Mom, we know in our souls Jesus welcomed you with love; you truly were His good and faithful servant.

Special thank you to Deaconess Hospice (and their delivery people!) - who once again has come through for our family. Your love and dedication means everything during such a difficult time. We could not have done this without you. Thank you also to Addison Riemann, Tom Papalambros, and Patricia Avery as well as the rest of the Riemann Family for their gentle supportive care. You blessed us every step of the way. We also want to thank the Mississippi Gulf Coast Nurse Honor Guard for honoring Charlene's long standing nursing career.

Gathering to honor Ms. Charlene's life will be held from 4:00 - 6:00 pm on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport, MS, with nursing honors rendered at 5:00 pm by the Mississippi Gulf Coast Nurse Honor Guard.
