Samuel Paul Sapio, 91, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017 in Diamondhead.
Mr. Sapio was preceded in death by his parents, Rafael and Antoinette Sapio; a brother, Nicholas Sapio and his wife Nancy.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Y. Hiatt Sapio of Diamondhead; children, Samuel Sapio, Jr. (Jackie), Steven Sapio (Janet) and Emily Sapio; siblings, Mary Zaluski, Chris and Denny McNamara and Gloria Groner all of Youngstown, OH; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He was born in Youngstown, Ohio, and served in in the Army-Air Corps during WWII as an aerial engineer on a C47 Gooney Bird. He received an Army Occupation Medal (Germany), Good Conduct Medal, and a WWII Victory Ribbon. He retired from Borg-Warner Chemicals in Parkersburg, WV after 29 years as an instrument designer.
He enjoyed carving model airplanes from blocks of wood, painting and creative art projects using various mediums. He was a "Mr. Fix-It" enjoying projects around the house and yard. Mr. Sapio was a long standing member of the Diamondhead Community Church and will be remembered as a dedicated father and devoted husband.
Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Diamondhead Community Church and the funeral service will follow at 3:00 p.m. Interment with military honors will be in Gulf Pines Memorial Gardens.
