Sam Readman

Samuel N. "Sam" Readman, age 93, of Gulfport, passed away on March 10, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marylyn Readman; brother, Peyton E. Readman, Jr; and a sister, Emrick McElroy.
Survivors include his children, Peyton Diane Readman and Samuel N. Readman, Jr.; a sister, Patricia Hamrick; numerous nieces, nephews, many close friends, and other relatives.
Mr. Readman was a 1941 graduate of Gulfport High School and attended Perkinston Junior College for 1 year. While waiting for the military to call, he worked at the U.S. Post Office and was known as "Whistling Sam" by everyone on his route. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps and served as a state side Bombardier during World War II. In 1959, Sam opened the Sam Readman Insurance Agency and owned and operated the agency until 1983. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gulfport, the Gulfport Yacht Club, the Gulfport Kiwanis Club, past president of the Professional Insurance Agents of Mississippi, 1978 campaign chairman of the MS Coast Cancer Society, and a member of the ROMEO club (Retired Old Men Eating Out). He enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing, music, dancing, and playing the clarinet.
Visitation will be on Monday, March 13, 2017, from 1 - 2 pm at the RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. The funeral service will be at 2 pm in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
